Most of the students consider homework as a burden which they want to avoid. But some students accept this challenge and complete their homework assignments timely and regularly and others always try to get rid of this burden at any cost. First of all, being a teacher you should set a stiff and solid homework policy. Students should have a clear idea that what you are expecting from them and their parents in terms of doing homework. The best method for making it possible is to make a homework policy and then convey it to the students orally or you can also send this policy in writing to the parents of the students.

You can also create a planner for students in order to write down all the homework assignments. Then ask the students to get their parents signatures next to the assignments.

You can make a homework hotline that can provide the complete information about the homework along with the dates at which they are due.

Try to give such assignments to the students that make them curious. Don’t give them the research question directly but attract their attention by asking motivational questions. For example, if the homework assignment is about the effects of ultra violet rays, then attract their attention by asking the question that why should we use umbrella while going into sun. This will serve as a motivational question.

You can also relate the homework assignment to the hobbies and interests of students. The main reason due to which students avoid doing homework is that the assignments given to them are not according to their taste. So try hard to make such assignments that attract their attention and interests. It will help a lot to attract the attention of students towards doing their homework.

Creating a reward activity after a week or month is a good way to motivate and encourage the students. If students would be given awards and certificates for their best performance regarding the completion of assignments, they will motivate to do their homework in a proper manner and on time. Most of the schools use school certificates to reward the students but one thing that the teachers should consider is that the design and format of school certificates should be according to the grade of the student to which you are going to present the certificate. It is difficult to follow different designs for making the certificates for students of different grades, so the best method is to use school certificate templates instead of designing different certificates for different grades and purposes.

While giving an assignment to the students, use the words that can be understood by the students easily. Instructions should be given clearly and in an easy way. If you will use difficult language, students will get confused and ultimately avoid doing that assignment.
